What Are We Supposed to Eat to Stay Healthy? A Meat and Dairies Free Diet

(In collaboration with Dr. Yavuz)

The more time that passes, the more we find ourselves trying to figure out what is really good for us. There are people who are sure that the food that can make us healthy is the traditional and ancient one, others who want to eat only organic products and still others who are immersed in new nutritional diets. In 2022, what we really need is based on so many factors.

Above all, speaking honestly, we find ourselves in a world where even what we used to be sure of is no longer a certainty based on chemical data and factors surrounding the nutritional world.

Following a predominantly plant-based diet (not entirely as I'm still not vegan) I keep wondering if it's really necessary for everyone to change their diet and what they need to stay healthy and feel good.

With Dr. Yavuz, a nutritionist and dietitian, I did an interview specifically about Meat free and Dairy free eating to understand what we need to be healthy. I find important to gain information from a specialist in order to become more aware of the reality.

Nowadays, what are the nutrients necessary to keep a balanced diet and functional body?

"A balanced diet will include a variety of foods from the following groups: fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy, protein foods. Protein foods in vegan or vegetarian diets should come from plant-based proteins such as soy, legumes, etc..." - Dr. Yavuz

What is something essential for our body to function properly?

"There are only 4 things a body needs to survive: water, food, oxygen, and a functioning nervous system. Vitamins, minerals, fats, carbohydrates, and proteins are very essential for our body to function well". - Dr. Yavuz

What should we avoid in our diet?

"All processed foods, pastries, cookies and cakes, foods high in added sugar, most fruit juices we buy from grocery shops, candy bars, white bread, sugary drinks, and fried products should be avoided in our diet". - Dr.Yavuz

Many times, it might happen to hear people saying "fats are bad". So, my question is, are fats healthy as well?

"Fat is an important part of a healthy diet. Choose foods with “good” unsaturated fats, limit foods high in saturated fat, and avoid “bad” trans fats.High in good fats include vegetable oils such as olive, sunflower, soy, and corn, nuts, seeds, and fish". - Dr.Yavuz

Is an eco-friendly diet considered healthy (meat and dairy free)?

"Yes, if you are taking an adequate amount of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals then a vegan diet is healthy". - Dr,Yavuz

What makes a meat and dairy-free diet balanced and healthy? What should we eat to replace meat and dairy?

"Plant-based products. Such as almond, coconut milk, tofu, legumes, etc...It's important to include everything in order to keep a balanced diet". - Dr.Yavuz
